Training an African Grey Parrot to Allow Foot Touching

One of the steps to training a parrot to allow you to trim his nails is to train the bird to be comfortable with touching his feet, and also moving them a bit. Here we are extending the amount of time spent touching his feet. And he does great!

Training Mutiple Parrots- Conures!

This clip shows how to train flighted parrots to sit on a perch when you enter and exit an enclosure. Instead of chaos you can have calm birds sitting on perches. We trained this with 16 macaws in one giant enclosure at one zoo where I consulted.

Training a Parrot for a Head Scratch

This is the continuing story of Toby, a great training success example! Toby used to enjoy head scratches when he was younger. This changed as he matured. After implementing a successful positive reinforcement training program with Toby (see other video clip), Joseph decided to see if he could train Toby to enjoy head scratches again. cockatiel preens hair and eyelashes

This sweet cockatiel is part of an interactive aviary at a zoo. While not every bird should be so close to one's face, this one proved to be quite gentle. Plus I think it was positively reinforcing for both of us!

Training a Macaw to Accept Inhaled Medication

This is a macaw I trained to accept nebulization without being handled as she was not previously trained to step up, etc. It took 5 days of two 20 minute session per day to get to this point.
